Early Life

Mr. Hernandez was born in Port Lavaca in 1971 to Alex Hernandez Sr. and his wife. His family moved to Chicago when he was a child, then Houston, where Hernandez Sr. started his career as an attorney and began working for the oil and gas company Aramco It was during this time that Hernandez’s father decided to move with his family to Saudi Arabia, although the move was short-lived.

Hernandez Sr. and his family returned to Texas when his son was ready to begin high school. Hernandez Jr. subsequently graduated from Calhoun High in 1989 and went on to attend and receive degrees from both Victoria College and the University of Texas’s Austin campus in the early 1990s.

College Days

Alex Hernandez performed well in school from the very start. In college, he graduated as the Economics Student of the Year before deciding to follow in his father’s footsteps and obtain his law degree. He graduated from St. Mary’s School of Law in San Antonio in 2001.

Early Career

Before attending law school, Hernandez worked as a financial planner. While he was working this job, he found that his inability to speak Spanish acted as a barrier to communication with his clients. Like the dedicated professional that he was and is, Hernandez moved to Monterrey, Mexico, his father’s birth city, to pick up Spanish to further his career before enrolling at St. Mary’s.

Legal Career

Hernandez began working in the legal field while he was still in law school, learning about surveying and wastewater planning with Harry Jewett Associates and working in the legal division at HB Zachry. He began his career as a lawyer just three days after passing his bar exam and went on to try his first case within the month.

Just a few years later, Hernandez moved to Corpus Christy. There, he worked for a time with attorneys Chavez, Gonzales, and Hoblit then started his law firm in 2005. He is now a well-respected member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association.
